A salon has two kinds of cleaning. The first is tool and station cleaning, which licensing rules usually assign to your licensed staff. The second is the building around them, which a cleaning company can do. This checklist keeps the two apart.
Your licensed staff
- Clean and disinfect tools between clients, as your licensing board requires
- Sweep hair from the floor between clients
- Wipe the station and chair after each client
Check your state board's current rules, since they change. Doctor Clean does not disinfect tools.
Every visit (a cleaning crew)
- Wipe station counters, chairs and mirrors, and empty station bins
- Clean and dry shampoo bowls and sinks, and clear hair from drains where reachable
- Sweep, vacuum and mop all floors
- Wipe the reception desk, seating and door glass
- Clean and restock restrooms and the break area
Weekly and monthly
- Wipe drawer and cabinet fronts
- Detail under and around stations
- Descale sink fixtures
- Dust retail shelves and displays
- Clean the inside of the refrigerator and microwave
How often should a salon be cleaned?
Most salons need two or three visits a week, because hair and product build up quickly. See salon and spa cleaning for prices and what is and is not included.
